Preparing for a trip can be a little stressful. You probably have a million checklists you’re trying to keep up with. It can be difficult to figure out what to pack and how to pack it.

You need to get all the most important necessities of your life from point A to point B, which probably includes your CBD gummies.

Here’s what you need to know about flying with CBD gummies. You don’t have to leave home without them.

Is CBD Legal?

CBD comes from the hemp plant, and as of 2018, hemp is legal on a federal level. American farmers can grow industrial hemp and use it to produce a wide variety of products, including CBD products, textiles, and more.

Technically speaking, CBD products are also legal in almost every state. A few states restrict full-spectrum CBD products, which contain a small amount of naturally occurring THC from the hemp plant. In those states, CBD products cannot contain any detectable levels of THC.

Broad-spectrum CBD products and CBD isolate products don’t contain any detectable THC, so these products are available nearly everywhere (though there are still a few states that also don’t allow any hemp products at all).

Should You Bring Your CBD on Your Trip?

Packing for a trip is difficult, especially if the trip will last more than a few days. You probably can’t bring everything you want to bring. Until modern science makes the Mary Poppins suitcase possible, you’ll only have so much room in your luggage. You’re going to have to make some important decisions!

If you’re determining what you should take or leave behind, here’s the case for bringing your CBD with you.

To Get a Good Night’s Rest

Your body relies on your circadian rhythm to determine when it’s time to go to sleep and when it’s time to wake up. Your circadian rhythm uses cues from the light around you to figure out when to send bedtime messages to your mind and body.

When you travel to a different time zone, your circadian rhythm can get wonky. It might get dark later or earlier, disrupting your body’s natural flow.

CBD works to support your body’s circadian rhythm. You can combine it with good bedtime practices, like turning off screens and putting your phone away an hour or two before bed.

To Soothe Feelings of Travel Stress

Putting together a big trip is a complicated (and often expensive) process. There’s a lot to do before you get to the fun part! Traveling is often only fun once you’ve landed, checked in at your hotel, eaten something yummy, had a shower, and slept through the night. Then, the point is to let all those feelings of stress go so you can have a good time.

CBD can support the body’s stress management system. Its naturally soothing properties can ease feelings of tension and support feelings of relaxation.

It might be helpful to use CBD while you’re planning your trip. It can be just as helpful to use CBD while you’re away. It can help you leave the overwhelmed feelings at home, so you can let loose and have fun on vacation.

To Maintain Your Routine

You’ll probably be a little laxer if you're on vacation. Of course, you’ll have moments where you indulge in extra dessert and may not have time to hit the hotel gym every day.

That’s perfectly fine! Give yourself a break once in a while. Stick to the simpler parts of your wellness routine.

CBD boasts some supportive effects that become apparent shortly after using it, but the full depth of its benefits becomes more apparent with continued use.

If CBD is already part of your wellness routine, stay committed to it while you’re on your trip. Eating a CBD gummy isn’t as big of a commitment as a half-hour workout. It only takes a few seconds (and tastes delicious).

Can You Fly With CBD Gummies?

Whether or not you can fly with CBD depends on where you’re going. That determines where the CBD will ultimately wind up.

Your CBD is subject to laws, rules, and regulations at your destination. You shouldn't fly with it if you aren’t allowed to bring it somewhere.

Domestic Flights

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) permits CBD products in both checked and carry-on bags. TSA is subject to federal laws, and hemp-derived products are federally legal. TSA has stated that they aren’t specifically looking for CBD products

They’re only obligated to report potential violations of federal law. CBD is federally legal, so you’re unlikely to encounter any problems.

You can bring CBD gummies, CBD oil, and CBD topical products that fit within the 3.4-ounce limit for liquids. Almost all CBD oil liquids come in one-ounce bottles.

You’ll want to be more mindful about CBD roll-ons, lotions, or creams. They often come in bigger containers, and you may not be able to transport them in their original packaging. Get a TSA-approved travel bottle kit and fill a bottle with enough cream or lotion to take on your trip.

Lastly, you need to be sure that the CBD products you’re traveling with are broad-spectrum or CBD-isolate. These two forms of CBD don’t contain any detectable levels of THC, making them legal for domestic travel.

International Flights

CBD laws vary significantly around the world. In some countries, CBD products are legal for everyone to use regardless of how much THC they contain. In many of these countries, traditional cannabis is fully legal nationwide.

While there are countries with extremely progressive laws, there are also countries with extremely restrictive laws. In some places, possessing any cannabis or hemp product is punishable by serious prison time. Local police can and will incarcerate tourists for bringing hemp or cannabis products into the country.

Navigating this situation can get very messy. Even if your ultimate destination is very progressive with its hemp laws, you may have a layover in a country where hemp is completely illegal.

If you’re going directly from the United States to a country where hemp is legal, you can still face issues. International drug conventions make it illegal to cross borders with cannabis-type products, including hemp. Countries like Canada, where cannabis in all forms is recreationally legal for adults, still caution travelers to be aware of restrictions.

If you’re going to a different country where CBD is legal, you’re better off buying it when you arrive. You can’t take the leftover CBD back with you, though. Leave it behind as a “thank you” gift to the friends or family you visited while you were away.

How To Travel with CBD Gummies

CBD gummies are the easiest form of CBD to take with you. You don’t need to worry about glass bottles breaking in your luggage and oil soaking everything you own. You’ve picked the perfect portable form of CBD.

Use Broad-Spectrum CBD Gummies

Broad-spectrum CBD has removed all detectable levels of THC, making it legal for use in almost every state. Carrying broad-spectrum CBD gummies instead of full-spectrum CBD gummies will help you avoid any mishaps with CBD regulations.

Keep Them in Their Original Packaging

If you think transferring your CBD gummies into different packaging will make them a little more low-key, you’re right. But there’s no reason to keep them more low-key than you’d keep your vitamins or toothpaste.

It’s typically perfectly legal to travel with CBD gummies, but if anything comes into question, it’s best to keep them in their original packaging. The packaging should state what the product is and feature the batch number.

Print and Carry Your Certificate of Analysis

Reputable CBD companies send batches of their products to a third-party lab for testing. The lab creates a certificate of analysis, which shows exactly how much of each cannabinoid the product contains. It should also show the batch number on your packaging.

Print your certificate of analysis and keep it with your CBD gummies. If your baggage gets searched and anyone has questions, you can refer the person performing the inspection to the certificate of analysis. The analysis should show that the CBD product doesn’t contain any detectable levels of THC.
